Why do lawyers lie? The CPAO story of Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches. Why do lawyers lie? Why indeed?
Why indeed? Usually to defend their position.
Robert Gubbins, CPAO director, was asked by a judge directly the reason for not responding to a letter by Global Payments, a credit card processing company, requesting the sales draft for the Marshall Sone credit card transaction in which he paid my fees. Gubbins claimed that he had provided everything that he had and there was nothing else to be provided. This of course is a bold faced lie. He did not provide a sales draft because there wasn't one prepared. He deliberately mislead the court to defend his position that he performed his duty in a reasonable manner and according to fiduciary protocol.
Elizabeth Cowie, counsel for the CPAO, claimed that my fees were not paid and that the CPAO did everything it should have to respond to the charge back. This is a bold faced lie. She lied to defend her position and save her job since admitting the truth would expose the CPAO to a negligence claim in excess of a million dollars. (Thank you large bills please).
Why do lawyers lie? They are people like the rest of us. Some people tell the truth even if it puts them in a bad light. Other people lie to defend their position even if it hurts someone else.
